Milk was used, instead of water, for mixing the cement from which the house was constructed, as the cement available was of poor quality.The house was also one of the first in Pretoria to be lit by electricity. The house contains either the original furnishings or items from the same historical period, some of the many gifts that were presented to Kruger as well as other memorabilia. 3.Church Square: originally Market Square is the square at the historic centre of the city of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. The founder of Pretoria, Marthinus Pretorius, determined that the square be used as a market place and church yard. It was subsequently named for the church buildings that stood at the centre of the square from 1856 to 1905. A drive pass church square It was a market square with old city building which was built in the early 1800 and the statue of Paul Kruger is in the Centre of the square. We would drive through the square on our way to Union building. 4. Union Building The official seat and the headquarters of the South African Government, the office of the president and other Government department are located here. The structure has been built after the British colony formed the Union of South Africa after they defeated the Boer during the second Anglo Boer War which took place between 1899 and 1902. The construction of this 285m long structure began in 1910 and was completed in 1913. The big statue of the former president Nelson Mandela is in the Centre of the garden.
