Full description

Visit Auschwitz on a day trip from Krakow. Learn about the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps during a guided tour with a certified historian and guide. Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded in 1940 by Nazi Germany and was the largest concentration camp operated by the Nazis. It became the final resting place for millions of people, mostly Jews and Poles, who were murdered in gas chambers. Pass through the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" to enter Auschwitz I, where your guide will show you around the preserved area and explain the history of the site.  Then, visit the second camp at Birkenau, where mass killings took place as part of the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question."

  • As per the requirements of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, all participants must provide their full name and contact details as part of the booking
  • You are not permitted to enter the museum with large bags or backpacks (the maximum size allowed is 20 x 30 centimeters)
  • It is recommended that you bring lunch and drinks with you.
  • The pace and duration of the tours are determined by the memorial's visitor service. Unfortunately, GetYourGuide and your guide have no influence on the duration of the break time
  • For reasons beyond the operator's control, the tour may be canceled. In this case, the customer will always receive a full refund

Julia and her team of guides were amazing. There was this one moment where Julia said “ I won’t be leaving anyone behind” and that touched me. She’s quite dedicated to her work and the participants. The guides were super knowledgeable and gave us additional historical facts. Beautifully done as we paid homage to those who lost their lives.

While a very sobering experience, everyone should pay a visit to Auschwitz while in Krakow. Our tour flowed smoothly from pick up to drop off. While we had selected a 9 am pick up, we were informed that we would be picked up at 6 am due to the inability of the tour operator to procure entrance tickets. We ended up arriving at 7:30 to Auschwitz and waited in line for approximately 30 minutes to get our tickets. Once we received our tickets we waited an additional 1.5 hours before starting the tour. There is a cafeteria style restaurant available before entering Auschwitz that we utilized. I highly recommend eating before arriving or eating at the cafeteria since once the tour starts it is a long day with no time for eating breaks. Overall we had a good experience, especially since we knew ahead of time that our 9 am pick up was not a guaranteed pick up time.
