- Take a refreshing dip in the Huay Tho waterfall ponds
See the Khao Phanom Bencha, a range of mountains running north to south, with the highest peak reaching 1,397 meters above sea level. It is home to the water reservoir that supplies the whole of Krabi province and receives rain throughout the year.
The elephant camp is situated in the Huay Tho village which is only a 30-minute drive from Krabi town and is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in elephants and their welfare. The elephants belong to the locals and are treated like members of the family.
On a 1-hour elephant trek you’ll ride through the rainforest at the foot of Khao Phanom Bencha Mountain. Afterwards you’ll be able to spend some time with the elephants, with the possibility of feeding them with locally grown bananas as a reward for their work. If you have chosen the appropriate option, you can even bath them or enjoy a baby elephant show.
Take a short trek to the 7-level Huay Tho waterfall, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim under the cascading waters. A cool dip in the Huay Tho waterfall ponds is the perfect way to relax while taking in the surrounding vista of the national park, its fruit trees, and tropical flora and fauna.
Combine the elephant trek with a visit to Tiger Cave Temple which is set in a beautiful forest. The temple is in fact a famous meditation centre – monks and nuns come from all over Thailand to retreat here. Continue by car to Krabi Town and cruise by longtail boat to the famous Khao Kanab Naam Mountains – Krabi’s most famous landmarks. These majestic natural wonders act as the gateway to Krabi city with the river running between the two limestone cliffs forming a widely photographed beauty spot.
