What to Expect
Experience the traditions of Kochi on a full-day tour of 3 of its major cultural sites.
You’ll begin at Kerala Kalamandalam, which is Kochi’s cradle of performing arts. This is the premiere public institution in India for teaching the classical arts of Kerala, including Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyaattam, Thullal, and Panchavaadyam.
The institute was founded in 1930 on the banks of the Nila River. Training in art disciplines at Kalamandalam essentially adheres to the ancient Gurukula sambradaaya – the traditional mode of education that calls for a deep bond between the teacher and the student.
Next on the itinerary is the Guruvayoor Temple. It is one of the most important places of worship for local Hindus. The divine idol here should not be missed.
The third site you’ll visit is a unique elephant sanctuary, maintained by a local temple, and the only one of its kind in the world. It has 68 elephants in residence that are offerings of devotees. A large number of pilgrims and tourists visit this sanctuary.
During the tour you’ll have time to stop and enjoy lunch.
