What to Expect
Meet your local guide in the city center and start a fascinating 3-hour walking tour of the most prestigious district of Kiev – Pechersk. Local elite has always lived in this area, no wonder that the most elegant and sophisticated mansions appeared in this district. Nowadays, Pechersk is an administrative and cultural center of Kiev, where there buildings of the Ukrainian Government and Parliament are located.
The first architectural pearl you going to discover will be a heavenly beautiful Mariinskiy Palace. Built in the end of the 18th century by B. Rastrelli, Mariinskiy Palace is an excellent example of the Baroque architecture in Kiev. Moreover, there is a beautiful park right next to it with a splendid fountain in the middle. This place is perfect for a pleasant walk in any time of the year.
Not far from the palace, you will see a white marble building with a glass dome that hosts Ukrainian Parliament – Verhovna Rada. The next attraction of the tour is a Chocolate House – a mansion of a rich merchant that today holds art exhibitions. Its dark brown exterior reminds of the chocolate bar, therefor the origin of it’s name.
Walking further through the cozy streets, you will discover the House of the Crying Widow. There is a sad woman’s face on the façade of the building and on the rainy days, it seems like tears are running down her cheeks. Your guide will tell you interesting legends about this house.
This tour won’t be complete without seeing two more exceptional buildings – the National Bank of Ukraine and the House with Chimeras. The first one combines Gothic and Baroque elements and is decorated with the mythological figures. The House with Chimeras is a world-famous creation of the Kiev architect V. Gorodetskiy and nowadays it is the Administration of the President. There are a lot of legends about the construction of this stunning building. It will impress you with an extraordinary exterior, decorated with mythological creatures, mysterious animals and plants.
The tour will come to an end in the Passage – a cozy street in the city center with lots of cafés and boutiques.
