Discover the Irish countryside with a local guide who can share the legends and history of this magical land. Drive around the Iveragh Peninsula, pass rugged countryside, and later walk through Killarney National Park to get close with nature.
What to Expect
Ireland's lush green hills, breathtaking causeways, and centuries-old castles offers the visitor memories for a lifetime. On this two day walking and driving tour through the countryside, you will be treated to gorgeous mountain roads, small villages filled with history and folklore, and relaxing walks through Killarney National Park and the surrounding areas.
Beginning on the Iveragh Peninsula, you will drive through rugged countryside that has been home to some of the island's most famous poets and writers. The area is filled with history and folklore, and your guide will be happy to share these stories along your ride through Killarney, River Laune, Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Kells, Caherviveen, and the southern shores of Dingle Bay.
On your second day out, you will get out of the car and onto your two feet for a walk through Killarney's spectacular National Park. Here you can snap photos of the lakes, rivers, and mountains that roll out before you. The smell of wild mint and myrtle fills your senses with a renewed sense of peace as you pass by Strawberry Trees and Monte Rey Pines. Keep your eyes open, and maybe you'll even spot a native red deer!
Each tour is led by Richard Clancy, a local who knows these parts well and is sure to have plenty of fun stories and legends to share along the way. You will return to your lodging around 13:00 with the rest of the afternoon yours to explore.
Day 1: Ring of Kerry Tour
Depart at 11:00 from your hotel for a guided tour of the Iveragh Peninsula. Drive through rugged countryside in your private motorcoach, while traveling through Killarney, along the banks of the River Laune to Killorglin, via Glenbeigh, Kells, Caherciveen, the southern shores of Dingle Bay, Waterville, and along the coast via Coomakista Pass. On your return trip home you will drive through Derrynane, Sneem, Molls Gap, then via Ladies’ View and back to Killarney.
Day 2: Killarney National Park Guided Walk
Today's adventure also begins at 11:00 from your hotel, with a guided walk through the spectacular National Park. Your guide will point out the unique flora and fauna native to this area, and you might even spot a Japanese Sika, which was introduced here in the mid-19th century. During your walk, you will pass historic landmarks such as copper mines which date back nearly 4,000 years, and the 15th century Ross Castle. Here you can see where Brother Cudda slept for 200 years, or where President DeGaulle stayed in 1969. It's a historic walk to remember.
