  • Discover the wonders of the Kingdom of Bhutan
Explore the wonders of Bhutan on this two-day tour, which includes highlights such as the capital, Thimpu, and the dramatic scenery around the Takstang monastery.
What to Expect
Your tour begins with a flight to Paro. A spectacular descent through mountainous valleys brings you into the Kingdom of Bhutan. In Paro you will be received by your Bhutanese guide and transferred to your hotel. A short picturesque drive of about 2 hours along the valley brings you to the capital of Bhutan, Thimpu. After lunch at a local restaurant, start your sightseeing, visiting the Textile Museum, a traditional paper-making factory and the post office to see Bhutan's beautiful stamps, which depict the country’s myths and traditions. Alternatively, you can do less formal sightseeing and walk around the town with your guide. Stay overnight at a hotel.

On day two, drive to Satsam Chorten and then hike to the Takstang Monastery, which is built around a cave in which Guru Rimpoche meditated. The legend has it that Guru Rimpoche flew to the site of the monastery on the back of a tigress from Tibet and meditated in the cave there for three months. The monastery has been rebuilt after a fire in April 1998. The monastery can only be viewed from afar as it is not open to the public. The view is however worth the steep 1.5 hour walk up a wide mountain path. After lunch, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. Stay overnight at a hotel. The following day you will be returned to the airport.
