What to Expect
Situated 85 miles (140 kilometers) west of Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park covers 332 square miles (932 square kilometers) of sub tropical forest, consisting of grassland, Sal forest and river rainforest. One of the most diverse wildlife areas in Nepal, this 3-day safari gives you the chance to see tigers, rhinos, crocodiles, bears and Asian elephants, as well as take village tours and row along the Rapti River.

While the high Himalaya makes up Nepal's northern region, the southern lowland known as the Terai is covered with dense tropical jungles teeming with diverse wildlife and exotic birds, which makes Chitwan National park one of the most popular destinations for tourists who want to see wildlife animals up close.

The National Park shelters up to 56 different kinds of mammal species, including the one horned rhinoceros, Bengal Tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild elephant, striped hyena, dolphins and wild bisons. There are an estimated 500 species of birds, 126 species of fish, 590 species of butterflies and 47 species of reptiles in the park. The forest is covered predominantly by Sal, a kind of tree, which is mainly found in mountain areas, interspersed with tall grasslands, small hills, ox-bow lakes and flood plains.

The Chitwan jungle safari tours offers thrills that include canoe rides along jungle rivers, nature walks, bird watching excursions, and elephant back safaris, as well as elephant bathing, and village tours.

Day 1: Arrival - Village Tour - Tharu Cultural Show
Drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan. On arrival at Chitrasari staff will settle you in and transfer you to the resort for refreshments and a briefing of the accommodation facilities.

Relax over lunch and then tour an ethnic Tharu village, where you will learn more about the lifestyle of the Tharus. Visit the National Park Visitor's center to learn about the history of the National Park and about the wildlife before getting a sunset view from the banks of the Rapti River.

Enjoy a Tharu Cultural Dance Presentation. You will get the opportunity to participate in the spectacular show by the local villagers, or enjoy a slide show presentation about the attractions at Chitwan.

Relax over dinner before retiring for the night and resting before your early morning wake up call.

Day 2: Canoe Ride - Bird Watching - Elephant Safari
You will get a wake up call at 06:00 for breakfast and a departure by canoe for a ride along the Rapti River. This is an excellent opportunity to do some bird watching and to look out for the rare species of crocodiles, marsh muggers and the fish-eating gharial.

Take a jungle walk and on the way back to the lodge, enjoy the spectacle of watching elephants bathing.

After lunch go on an elephant safari looking out for the 4 different kinds of deer, rhinoceros, wild boar, monkey, leopard, sloth bear and, if you are really lucky, the royal Bengal tiger. You will encounter many other smaller mammals that make Chitwan their home.

Enjoy a Tharu Cultural Dance presentation in the evening or a slide show presentation before dinner.

Day 3: Visit to Elephant Breeding Centre - Departure
Wake a little later today and after breakfast visit the Government Elephant Breeding Centre. Responsible for providing the elephants for the elephant safaris in Chitwan National Park, you will see many baby elephants interacting with their mothers.

Say goodbye to Chitwan and depart at 10:00 for your onward journey.
