Kardamili : Hiking in Ridomo gorge

Kardamili : Hiking in Ridomo gorge

West Mani has four gorges and Ridomo is for sure the most spectacular! Ridomo Gorge starts from the Taygetos ridgeline and fades into the Messinian Bay running all the way down to Sadova beach, forming a natural boundary of the western Mani. During our hike you will be more than impressed by the rich geologic features of the gorge, with its evident stratification of rocks, its burst of intense rock color palette, being in perfect match with its splendid greenery. This is an esoteric, almost mystical experience that we can hardly put into words. The adventure starts with a 30-minute drive with our vehicle from Kardamili, all the way up to Vorio village, where the hiking part starts. We walk downhill to reach the riverbed, entering a land of fairies for an one way hike! We leave the rest to your imagination! This is not an extreme hike, but hiking in a gorge like Ridomo can still provide a challenge. You should be fit enough to walk for a few hours at a time and be ready to climb up in some parts of the route. It's a great tour for individual, solo travelers, families with older teens, as well as small groups or couples. The two instructors were excellent in both showing what to do in the kayaks and also explaining the local interest and history of the area. They were very helpful and patient and provided a lovely lunch on the beach. They also took you to some places which were only easily accessible by kayaks and they were a real surprise. You won't be disappointed! They take a large amount of photos (100+) of the journey and email them out, so you don't have to worry about dropping your phone in the sea. Absolutely recommend this excursion. it is for young and old and all will be entertained. Their English was excellent and everything was understood.

Great day trying something new ! George and Yannis were excellent guides , very encouraging even for scaredy cats like me . Beautiful scenery on the way and they were very knowledgeable about the ancient history. Fantastic lunch too. Impressive all round 🤩

Our guide Georgios was an excellent host, he was enthusiastic and very engaging, the day was relaxed, very enjoyable and most off all we felt completely safe, plus the picnic on the beach near end of the kayak tour was a perfect. 5 Stars Georgios 👍🏻
