What to Expect
This full-day tour takes you to the holiest of holy cities, spiritual sanctuary to the 3 great religions of the Western world, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Dating back over 4 millennia the Old City is so packed with sites that it draws visitors from around the world, whatever their spiritual leanings.
This tour focuses on the Jewish heritage of the city and the day starts with a magnificent overview of Jerusalem and the Judea Desert from Mount Scopus, near the Hebrew University Campus. You will visit King David's tomb on Mount Zion and drive to the Old City to wander through the Jewish Quarter into Davidson Center.
The archaeological park will give you the opportunity to get a virtual tour of the Temple Mount and to view artifacts found at the site. Continue to the Wailing Wall to witness and join in with the Bar-Mitzvah ceremonies.
You will visit the recently renovated Cardo, the old Roman road still visible on Jewish Quarter Street. View the remains of the wall of Jerusalem from the 1st Temple period.
Stop to visit the Ammunition Hill, a former Jordanian army stronghold, converted into a national memorial site and museum.
Continue to Mount Hertzl in the Bet Ha-Karem section of the city to see the memorial to one of the founding fathers of Israel, Theodor Herzl. Just down the road from the memorial you will visit the military cemetery, dedicated to those who have fallen in the country’s many wars.
Resume your tour at Yad Vashem, site of the poignant memorial to the Holocaust. The sprawling complex contains several sections, but it is the Holocaust Museum that draws thousands of visitors since it opened in 2005.
The beautiful building stands in contrast to the horrific story told within, but you will also want to see the Hall of Remembrance and the Hall of Names before your return journey to Tel Aviv, Netanya or Herzliy.
