What to Expect
See Turkey by bus on 10-day tour that covers the most important sites, both past and present day. Travel between Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus, spending sufficient time in each of these cities to enjoy guided tours and free time. You will also stop off and see or pass by many smaller villages to get a taste of life in the countryside.
Get exposed to the rich political and historical parts of Turkey as you tour important buildings and monuments. Visit churches and mosques, palaces and castles, geographical landmarks, ancient ruins, and more. Along the way, your guide will provide you information and insight into the places you visit and the sights you see.
Day 1: Istanbul (Meals: L)
After morning pick-up from your hotel, set off on a tour of Istanbul. Visit the Hagia Sophia Museum, the Blue Mosque, and the Hippodrome. Following lunch, you will stop by Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar. Overnight in Istanbul.
Day 2: Istanbul (Meals: B, L)
In the morning, visit the Spice Bazaar and the Spice Market. Following this, you will enjoy a 1.5-hour cruise on the Bosphorus. Stop for lunch, then visit the Dolmabahce Palace. Overnight in Istanbul.
Day 3: Istanbul - Cappadocia (Meals: B, L)
Spend your day exploring Istanbul on your own. Then take an overnight bus to Cappadocia, an 11-hour journey. Overnight on the bus.
Day 4: Cappadocia (Meals: B, L)
Upon your arrival to Cappadocia, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Then set off on a drive to Devrent Valley, where the geographical formations will amaze you. Head to Pasabagi, where you'll take a stroll among the amazing fairy chimneys of Cappadocia. Enjoy lunch in Avanos, followed by a trip to see the most beautiful examples of Byzantine art in Goreme Open Air Museum. Drive to Uchisar Castle, the highest point of the region, where you will have a fabulous panoramic view over Cappadocia. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 5: Cappadocia (Meals: B, L)
Set off on a 2.5-mile (4 kilometer) hike through the Rose Valley, visiting the churches, and then heading to the old Christian village of Cavusin. Stop for lunch in Pigeons Valley and then continue on to see the marvel of construction that is the Kaymakli Underground City. You will also visit the Ortahisar Natural Rock Castle. Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 6: Cappadocia (Meals: B, L)
Enjoy a free day in the magic valley to explore the area or just to have a rest. Then make your way to Pamukkale. Overnight on the bus.
Day 7: Pamukkale (Hierapolis) (Meals: B, L)
Upon your arrival to Cappadocia, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Depart for "Cotton Castle," the center of natural thermal spring waters with healing properties. Due to the chemical properties in the water, pure, white-colored travertines and stepped water terraces have been created on the mountain slope. Visit the travertines and the ancient city of Hierapolis, which, with 1,200 gravestones, is the biggest necropolis in Anatolia. See the sacred pool with its shallow, thermal waters that ripple over ancient Roman ruins. Overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 8: Pamukkale - Ephesus (Meals: B, L)
Take a 3-hour bus ride from Pamukkale to the Ephesus region. When you arrive, you will be met and take to your hotel. Enjoy a free day. Overnight in Ephesus.
Day 9: Ephesus (Meals: B, L)
Set off on a full-day tour of the ancient city, known as the commercial, religious, and the social center of antiquity. After lunch, drive to Temple of Artemis (Diana), the site of one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. See the house of the Virgin Mary and the Isa Bey Mosque. Overnight in Ephesus.
Day 10: Ephesus - Istanbul (Meals: B, L)
Travel 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) to Sirince, an old Orthodox village. Enjoy the impressive vineyards and peach trees along the way to this village, a perfect synthesis of Turk-Greek culture. All the narrow streets of the village belong to the women selling olive oil and handcrafts of all kinds. Another attraction of Sirince is its wine. After exploring the region, board your overnight bus back to Istanbul.
Day 11: Istanbul
Arrive in Istanbul in the morning. Upon your arrival to Esenler Bus Station, you may use the free shuttle to get to Sultanahmet Square or use the public transportation to get to Ataturk Airport.
