Overview
Travel back in time on a 2-day sightseeing tour of Troy and Gallipoli from Istanbul. Learn the legend of Helen of Troy, and see the memorial sites of the Allied and Turkish soldiers who lost their lives in the bloody battles of World War I at Gallipoli.
What to Expect
Discover two of the most popular tourist destinations in western Turkey on a 2-day sightseeing tour from Istanbul. Cross the narrow Dardanelles Straits to explore the ancient ruins of Troy, and the World War I battlefields of Gallipoli.

Most tours of Gallipoli only focus on the Anzac sector, where the Australian and New Zealand forces suffered heavy losses. But this tour also goes to Cape Helles in the south sector, where the British and French soldiers were located, and where most of the casualties of the Gallipoli Campaign occurred. As well as the Australian and New Zealand memorials of Anzac Cove, you will visit the graves of British, French and Turkish soldiers, paying respect to the forgotten heroes.

Day 1: Istanbul - Troy
Depart for the town of Eceabat for lunch on the roof of the Grand Eceabat Hotel. Early morning pick-ups from Istanbul are arranged from hotels in the Taksim, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Şişli, Ortaköy, Bebek, Sultanahmet, Beyazıd, Sirkeci, and Laleli districts.

After lunch, enjoy a guided tour of Troy and learn the legendary love story between Helen and Paris, the duel between Hector and Achilles, and the story of the Trojan Horse. Boasting a beautiful location under the shadows of Mount Ida, the site of the Trojan War was immortalized in the movie “Troy,” starring Brad Pitt. Discover whether the Trojan Horse really existed, and whether Helen of Troy was the real cause of the war.

Once one of the most important cities in northwest Anatolia, today Troy sits abandoned to all but tourists on the lovely plain of Ilium. Explore the layered ruins of the walled city, including the Temple of Athena, Megaron House, and Schliemann Trench, named after the German archaeologist who excavated city remains that he believed were the home of Homer. Go to the Scaean Gate, and Gate of Troy, where the wooden horse is said to have been taken.

Then, check into your hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 2: Gallipoli - Istanbul
Today, you will fast forward to the devastations of World War I and explore the battlefields of the Gallipoli Campaign. Subject of a 1981 film, starring a young Mel Gibson, Gallipoli was the site of terrible casualties, marking a significant victory for the Turkish campaign against the Allies.

Start your tour from the narrowest part of the Dardanelles at Kilitbahir Fortress, and peek at the tricky terrain the Allied soldiers were required to capture. Drive to the beaches where they landed to start their campaign.

As your guide explains the history of the war, see highlights such as the Achi Baba Hill, with its commanding views of Cape Helles. Go to the main landing area of Morto Bay, the French Cemetery, Cape Helles Memorial, Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, and the farming village of Alcitepe, which was completely destroyed by bombardments.

Return to Eceabat for lunch, before touring Brighton Beach, the Anzac Commemorative Site, Lone Pine Australian Memorial, and the trenches and tunnels of Johnston's Jolly, among many other sites.

Your war tour over, depart for Istanbul at 18:00, stopping en route for coffee, before an estimated hotel drop off back in the city at approximately 23:30.
