What to Expect
Your licensed tour guide will meet you at the cruise port to take you on a memorable full-day tour of Istanbul’s old city.

You’ll learn about the many ancient civilizations that combined with Turkish culture to create this complex city. See many of the impressive structures built over the centuries on your tour.

Topkapi Palace was the official residence of the Ottoman sultans and the center of state administration. It contains the most holy relics of the Muslim world. Enter the Treasury section, and admire beautiful exhibits including the Spoonmaker’s Diamond, which at 86 carats is the 7th-largest diamond in the world.

The Blue Mosque has functioned both as an Ottoman mosque and a Byzantine church, and is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period.

One of the world’s finest examples of Byzantine architecture is the Basilica of Hagia Sophia. The monument dates back to 537 A.D. and has withstood several wars and invasions. At one time it was a church, was later transformed into a mosque, and finally became the museum that it is today.

The Hippodrome of Constantinople was the center of Byzantine civic life, and where horse and chariot races were held. See the 3,500-year-old Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius and the spiral bronze base of a 3-headed serpent sculpture among the ruins at the site.

Stop at the Grand Bazaar, one of the largest covered markets in the world, and the largest and oldest in Turkey. It features 60 streets and over 4,000 shops, and is known for its unique carpets, leather embroidery, jewelry of all kinds, ceramics, antiques, handicrafts, spices, and of course, for inexpensive souvenirs.
