Visit the Istanbul Modern Art Museum to see the temporary exhibitions of famous artists, such as Van Gogh and Rembrandt. Founded in 2004 the gallery is located on the shores of the Bosphorus and is Turkey’s first private modern art museum.
What to Expect
Take a tour of Istanbul's beautiful Modern Art Museum, located on the banks of the Bosphorus in the Karaköy district.
Turkey’s first private museum to organize modern and contemporary art exhibitions, it occupies an 86,000 square foot (8,000 square meter) space and features exhibitions on two floors.
Discover work from the museum's permanent collection, and explore the shop and restaurant on the top floor with lovely views of the water. Temporary exhibitions are located on the lower floor.
The tour will explore the work and life experiences of Vincent Van Gogh during the period 1880 to 1890. Interpret his thoughts and state of mind during his time in Arles, Saint Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise, the locations where he created many of his timeless masterpieces.
See these works in hyper-fine detail, with special attention to key features, allowing you time to study color and technique. Photographs and video have also been augmented with Van Gogh's works to demonstrate his sources of inspiration.
After lunch, explore the Rembrandt and His Contemporaries: The Golden Age of Dutch Art exhibition. Held on the 400th anniversary of diplomatic and trade relations between the Netherlands and Turkey, the Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul’s Emirgan district is hosting a major exhibition of Rembrandt and his contemporaries.
It is the first time the paintings, etchings and drawings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Jacob van Ruisdael, Jan Lievens and other Dutch masters from the Golden Age will be shown in Turkey.
The exhibition highlights the richness of 17th-Century Dutch art and history and you will see a selection of paintings, drawings, prints and decorative art objects, such as rugs, pottery, silver and glass, which all tell the story of the power and beauty of the young Republic in the Golden Age.
At the end of the tour, at approximately 17:00, you will be transferred back to your hotel for a convenient drop-off.
