Discover Ottoman Empire relics on this full-day tour of Istanbul through the days of the sultans. You will visit the Dolmabahce Museum, Museum of Turkish and Islamic Works and Arts, iconic Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and more.
Following a hotel or cruise ship port pick-up in central Istanbul, drive by air-conditioned vehicle to the Museum of Turkish Islamic Works and Arts. Your personal guide will introduce the museum’s collection of authentic items that reflect the lifestyle and culture of the Turkish people.
Continue to Topkapi Palace, the great palace of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th to the 19th centuries. See an exquisite collection of crystal, silver, and Chinese porcelain, as well as robes worn by the sultans and their families. The famous jewels of the Imperial Treasury and Harem can also be visited for a small extra fee.
Admire the iconic Blue Mosque, a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture that combines Islamic and Byzantine elements. Officially known as the Sultanahmet Mosque, it is the mosque’s striking blue tiles that give it the more common name and make it one of Istanbul’s most iconic attractions.
Go to the Hippodrome to see where Roman horse chariots used to race to the cheers of the crowds. Then, continue to Dolmabahçe Palace, built between 1843-1856 by Karabet Balyan, the court architect of Sultan Abdulmecid. The magnificent 3-storied palace was built with 285 rooms and 43 halls, and has survived intact with its original decorations, furniture, and the silk carpets and curtains. Admire its splendor, which surpasses many other palaces for sheer wealth and magnificence.
