Enjoy a private tour of Istanbul's famous Istiklal Street, located right in the heart of the city's 19th and 20th diplomatic quarter. Discover the sights and sounds of a place that is part Middle Eastern and part European.
What to Expect
Over the course of your 3-hour walking tour you will explore the former diplomatic or “European” zone of Istanbul where nationalities, religions and a myriad of people mixed for the past 150 years. Beginning in Taksim Square and proceeding down the famous Istiklal Street, the tour will trace through a part of Istanbul that the Europeans settled during the 19th century, as the fading Ottoman Empire began a program of rapproachment with the powers to its west.
Today, this heady period of cultural diversity is represented by a wonderful mix of neoclassical architecture and Art Nouveau, Parisian-style covered passages and a vibrant street life of cafes, shops and fine restaurants.
Some of the most historic food shops are located here, as well as a fish market. Since this street is such a focal point of life for young Istanbulis today this walk is very much a portrait of Istanbul, caught between 2 worlds.
