What to Expect
On this 7-day tour you’ll explore Turkey from the historical monuments of Istanbul to the cotton castles of Pamukkale. Visit the WWI memorials in Gallipoli, the archaeological and mythical site of Troy, and Ephesus – one of the world’s best-preserved ancient sites.
Day 1: Istanbul – Arrival Day
You’ll be met at the airport for the transfer to your hotel. You’ll be given your room key and the rest of the day is yours to explore Istanbul. Overnight in Istanbul.
There are 2 airports in Istanbul. Istanbul Atatuk Airport is 20 kilometers from the city, and Sabiha Gökcen Airport is 55 kilometers from the city. Transfer from Atatuk Airport is included in the tour price. If you are arriving at Sabiha Gökcen Airport please inform the tour operator.
Day 2: Istanbul City Tour (Breakfast)
You’ll be picked up at your hotel at 08:30 for a full-day tour of Istanbul’s old city. Visit the ancient basilica of St. Sophia, built in the 4th century by Constantine the Great, and considered one of the architectural marvels of all time. Across from St. Sophia is the Blue Mosque, built in the 16th century and named after the magnificent blue Iznik tiles that cover its interior. See Topkapi Palace, home to Ottoman sultans from the 15th-19th centuries.
At 13:00 you’ll take a lunch break before heading to the covered Grand Bazaar. In this labyrinth of streets and passages there are more than 4,000 shops with each trade having its own area. See the goldsmiths' street, the carpet seller section, and passages featuring Turkish arts and crafts, such as hand-painted ceramic plates, hand-honed copperware, brassware, and more. Day 3: Gallipoli Tour (Breakfast)
After breakfast you’ll leave Istanbul for Gallipoli to visit the WWI battlefields and memorial sites. After lunch you’ll visit Gabatepe Museum, Aryburnu Cemetery, and Anzac Cove. In addition you’ll see the Beach Cemetery, Shrapnel Valley, and Plugges Plateau. After the tour you’ll check in at your hotel. Overnight in Canakkale.
Day 4: Troy Tour – Pergamon – Kusadasi (Breakfast)
At 08:30 you’ll depart on a 30-minute drive to Troy, where you’ll visit the famous archeological and mythological site best known for the Trojan Horse and Helen of Troy. Continue on to Pergamon, and enjoy a lunch break before touring the magnificent Acropolis of Pergamon. The area is also well known for its jewelry, stones, and silver, and you’ll stop to visit a jewelry center before the drive to Kusadasi. Overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 5: Kusadasi – Ephesus Tour – Sirince Village (Breakfast)
Today you’ll enjoy a fully guided tour of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient sites in the world. On the way you’ll visit the Temple of Artemis, the famous Roman baths, the Library of Celsus, and the House of the Virgin Mary.
After a lunch break you’ll visit a place a carpet weaving center, where you’ll see one Turkey’s oldest arts in practice. You’ll also tour the village of Sirince, with its original, white-painted houses reminiscent of Greece. Some of the best fruit wines in Turkey originate here. Visit the vineyards and learn how fruit wines are made.
Stop at one of the famous leather production centers of the region, where you’ll have the opportunity to buy items at the factory rate. Overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 6: Kusadasi – Pamukkale Tour (Breakfast)
At 08:30 you’ll depart for Pamukkale, where you’ll check in at the hotel and enjoy a break for lunch. Afterwards you’ll visit the cotton castles of Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis. Explore the natural calcium phenomenon and you have the option of enjoying the natural springs. Overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 7: Pamukkale – End of the Tour (Breakfast)
Your tour ends after breakfast in Pamukkale. If you wish to return to Istanbul, you can do so by bus or by plane. The bus takes more than 10 hours and the plane from Denizli Airport takes just 1 hour.
Another alternative is a yacht cruise from Bodrum, Marmaris, or Fethiye, which can be arranged for you. Please inform the tour operator if you’re interested.
