Spend two days exploring the natural and ancient wonders of Pergamum and Pamukkale. Explore the ruins of Pergamum, then get a taste of antique luxury at the hot springs of Pamukkale and the adjoining ruins of the Roman resort town of Hierapolis.
What to Expect
Turkey offers visitors history, culture, and spectacular natural beauty. Take a two day excursion from Istanbul by plane to explore the ancient city of Pergamum and then get a taste of antique luxury at the natural wonders of Pamukkale with the adjoining Roman ruins of Hierapolis.
Today you'll fly from Istanbul into Izmir, where you will then take a quick transfer to Pergamum. This ancient Greek city was famous long ago for its healing powers, and you can still feel it in the air today. You will visit the Aesculapium, an ancient medical center built in the name of Aesculapis, the Ancient Greek God of Medicine. Your guide will explain ancient healing methods to you.
You will enjoy a typical lunch before continuing on to the Acropolis. Here, the Athena and Trojan Temples stand high above the city, and you can explore the Temple of Zeus, Dionysos, Gymnasium of Youth, the Odeon, Library and Great Theatre with your guide.
Today, drive to Pamukkale, also known as the Cotton Castle. This natural wonder is created by the thermal springs bubbling up from underground, pushing their rich waters up and creating the landscape you see before you. You will have a chance to walk through the healing pools and use them as they have been used a thousand years, then visit the ruins of Hierapolis, which was built as an Ancient Roman resort town. Relax and feel your health being restored by the thermally-heated waters.
