Really looked forward to visiting and did enjoy the visit. However, paid full price not much of the house open to the public. Swiss Cottage and museum closed, walk from the house to the beach closed (alternative available but not as nice). Gazelle House Cake Shop closed. Only beach cafe open (clean and welcoming). Victoria’s bathing machine under wraps (reading about it on a post is not the same). Value for money ? No.
Allocated time slots would have allowed better control of the large numbers of families with small children and made it easier to ask questions of the volunteer staff in each room. As a consequence we felt like we were being herded in some of the more cramped areas of the house.
This is an amazing estate. Has a wonderful view. Many aspects that I haven’t seen anywhere else. BUT I wish we could tour the kitchen and the servants’ quarters. “Behind the scenes” is my favorite to see.
This is a wonderful activity. So much to see and learn about. Plan to make it a whole day. It was hot so people at the beach were in the water. The beach is rocky-bring water slippers!
We took my mum who is a wheelchair user. Found gravely really hard to push it on. The paths down to the restaurant was a nightmare. And afternoon tea. Was a great disappointment.
