Innsbruck's Alpine Zoo is unique worldwide in its function as an Alpine theme-zoo. Observe several species of animals that can only be found within the alp region. It is extremely family friendly but also offers a great variety of activities for grown ups. It is situated on the sunny side of the Inn valley, directly at the foot of the Nordkette and high above Innsbruck's rooftops. With the combi-ticket Alpine Zoo, the zoo is comfortably reachable from the city center. It is only a few minutes directly from the Congress Station to the Alpine Zoo station with the Hungerburg funicular. From there the entrance of the Alpine Zoo is only a few meters away. Begin your journey 560 meters above sea level, not far from the heart of Innsbruck's old town with its historical buildings and the world-renowned "Goldenes Dachl" (Golden Roof). Planned and designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, the Hungerburg funicular is a unique architectural achievement. Hop aboard your panoramic cable car and begin your upward ascent. As you rise upwards, admire how the elegant modern design of the stations contrasts with the rugged mountain landscape. Continue along Seegrube and Hafelekar and notice how the picture changes: your attention will now be caught by the painstakingly renovated station building, which was designed by the Tyrolese architect Franz Baumann. Savor the peace and beauty of nature as your ascent continues and the bustle of the city gives way to the tranquillity of the mountain. All that remains is a spectacular view of Innsbruck. By day it seems so far away it looks like a toy city, at night it shimmers like a sea of lights. After reaching the upper station at 2,256 meters above sea level, you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the city of Innsbruck on the one side and the unforgettable vista of untouched, pristine nature on the other. A visit to the Nordkette, set between the mountain range and the town, promises to be an unforgettable experience. Let the Gundolf Family–a staple in Innsbruck since 1967–entertain you with a 1.5-hour presentation. For many people, the Gundolf Family is a group of musical ambassadors representing Innsbruck and the historical region of Tyrol around the world. With a varied and attractive program, you will be delighted as you watch Tyrolean dances and “shoe-slapping.” You will also hear typical Tyrolean songs and yodeling. The impressive experience at the Top of Innsbruck, the 2,300m-high Hafelekar, is within every man’s grasp thanks to a direct connection from the city. Visitors may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the normally shy wildlife, but the unique panorama of the city and mountain is the real highlight. Walk up to the highest point of the Nordkette and experience the summit atmosphere without a long ascent. The ticket includes the roundtrip from station Congress to the Top of Innsbruck as well as the entrance to the Alpine Zoo.

Look out over the rooftops of Innsbruck as the tower guards once did in the Middle Ages. Discover how guards kept watch from the City Tower for almost 450 years, warning citizens of fire and other dangers. The lower storeys also once served as a prison. Today, the tower is there for visitors to enjoy. Over 133 steps lead up to the 31-meter-high viewing platform, which overlooks the medieval streets of Innsbruck and offers stunning views of Bergisel, Patscherkofel mountain, the River Inn, and the Nordkette mountain range. Learn about how the City Tower is a good 50 years older than the Golden Roof. It was completed in 1450 on the side of the old town hall. It doesn’t seem huge in comparison with modern buildings but 51 meters was very impressive in 1450 and the tower was a proud symbol of the self-confidence of the people of Innsbruck. The onion dome was added 100 years after its completion. Today, the tower still rises up majestically from amongst the medieval buildings in the old town – providing a good vantage point and a romantic view of Innsbruck. For a romantic experience, take the tour at sunset during the summer. During winter, listen to the tower trumpeters play from the balcony of the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) whilst the Christmas markets can be seen below. Please note that as the City Tower is a historic building and its existing form has to be preserved, there is no lift and you can only reach its top by climbing 133 steps.

The wonderful World of the Renaissance Schloss Ambras is one of the most important sights of Innsbruck. At Schloss Ambras you can immerse yourself in the life and the passion for collecting of the Renaissance prince Ferdinand II (1529 - 1595): Discover his chamber of art and wonders (Kunst- und Wunderkammer), his armories, and his Antiquarium. Admire the Habsburg portrait gallery with paintings from the time of Albrecht III (1349 – 1395) to the reign of Emperor Franz II (I) (1768 – 1835). The exhibition holds more than 200 paintings of the great masters, including the most valuable works of Lukas Cranach, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Peter Paul Rubens, Anton van Dyck and Diego Velázquez. The Chamber of Art and Wonders (Kunst- und Wunderkammer) at Schloss Ambras The Chamber of Art and Wonders (Kunst- und Wunderkammer) of the Renaissance is an encyclopedic, universal collection, which contains the entire knowledge of the time. The collection contains not only outstanding works of art such as the Tödlein, but also scientific objects such as the attachment with compass (Aufsatz mit Kompass), objects from distant countries, such as the "Ryukyu bowl" (Ryuku-Schale), rare products of nature, corals, portraits of people who were considered "miracles" such as the hairy man (Haarmensch) and fascinating games as well as unusual musical instruments. The Armories In the Armories, among other things, you will find rare tournament armor, ceremonial armor for courtly feasts, the armor of famous generals and the Turkish Chamber (Türkenkammer) of Ferdinand II, which documents both the fear of the Turks and the enthusiasm for the Orient in the 16th century.
