Full description
After checking in in the ticket office - passengers will be escorted to the dressing room where they will recieve warm water resistant overalls and life vests, leaving them free of the cold to sit back and peel their eyes across the rocking waves of the Atlantic, looking for any sign of life. Make sure to bring hats and gloves - it's always colder in the bay than in the town. When everybody is ready the guide will show the way to the boat where passengers will find their seats and get informed about safety regulations on board. The first pit-stop is Puffin Island (during puffin season which is from 1st May- 20th August). Circle around the Island, enjoying the view of thousands of the sweet looking puffins during their breeding period. The next destination is whale watching in Skjálfandi Bay, an area renowned for its rich wildlife, Víknafjöll and Kinnarfjöll mountain ranges. Thankfully, there are twenty different species of cetacean in Iceland, the most common being Humpback and Minke whales. There is always the chance to observe even rarer species; Orcas, Harbour Porpoises, Blue Whales, etc. Another great positive about this experience? By using a smaller vessel, such as a RIB, your captain is able to get much closer to where these animals are swimming. This is because smaller boats make far less noise, and are thus less likely to deter the whales, thus providing a more personal and memorable experience.  After two hours of cruising the ocean, you will begin the make the return journey back to the harbor. On your way, you will likely pass one of the numerous nesting Puffin colonies that live in the area; just another fantastic reason to come aboard! So don't delay any longer. Hurry now and you too can go whale watching in Húsavík using the nimble RIB boat. Check availability by choosing a date.

Important information

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Warm clothing

Know before you go

  • There's a 8 year old age restriction or 140 cm height. However, it's totally OK to bring younger kids when the sea conditions are good. Please check out the weather forecast if you're booking in short notice.
  • Seasickness on RIB boats is much less common than on oak boats. That's because the RIB's doesn't roll to the sides when on the move. It can however roll with the waves when stopped and therefore it can be wise for people prone to seasickness to take motionsickness tablets an hour before departure. They can be bought in the nearest pharmacy.

What an amazing experience! The Rib boat is an adrenaline rush and really enjoyed it. You really get to see up close the puffin birds and we were also lucky to spent more than half an hour watching up close a humpback whale! Sofia and Roberto were so kind and eager to answer any question we may had.

Pure show!

Very positive experience, although we took the tour in Spanish but when we got there, the only Spanish guide was gone and we did it in English. We had a day with very bad sea and waves of 6m that were a bit scary and still the professionals got us to see 3 different types of whales. They struggled a lot. With good tide, I would repeat for sure hehe!

Whales good, puffins so-so

The boat was fast so we were able to go out to see the whales faster; however, a little disappointed in not getting up closer to see the puffins. From the way it was advertised we thought we would get a close eye view. Saw some humpback whales and dolphins. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly.
