Top sights in Budapest
Budapest's striking parliament building, which took 1,000 workers 13 years to complete, on the banks of the Danube in Pest, is the third largest in Euorpe. Be it day or night, or viewed from a distance in hilly Buda, this iconic symbol is a sight to behold.
Imre Steindl submitted his plans upon the official call for a parliament building in 1880. The Gothic Revival design reflects the inspiration he found in the Palace of Westminster.
90 statues on the outer walls reflect Hungarian monarchs and military commanders. Though not typical in Gothic design, the dome rises 314 feet from the center of the building.
The lavish décor brims with the influences of Renaissance and Baroque. The Natonal Library, which holds 500,000 volumes, and the Hungarian Coronation Regalia are also inside.
These stairs lead to the Dome Hall, amid a stunning setting of allegorical ceilng frescoes, which illustrate the governing of the country, and 16 statues holding coronation symbols.
Parliamentary sessions with both houses occur below the interior of the dome, which rises 88 feet overhead. The statues and coat of arms of 16 rulers line the walls of the hall.

What people are saying about Hungarian Parliament Building
I bought this tour as it was the only way to get into one of the English tours of Parliament. The emailed confirmation said I would be texted or emailed about pick up time but I wasn’t. The morning of the tour I had to call the 800# to get details. The phone and emails listed in the confirmation were both no longer working which made me suspect I had been had. Fortunately all was well and the cab driver did arrive at our hotel to pick us up. Apparently the Budapest supplier now communicates only via WhatsApp. Do not miss the Parliament tour!
Parliament building is very busy and we were anxious about missing our timing, but our Get your guide tour person turned up as planned and took our passports to get the tour tickets from the ticket office. Efficient English speaking guide who showed us around the parliament building, beautiful inside and out. The Danube cruise meeting point was shown to us and we had no trouble finding it. Relaxing boat trip with lots of sunshine. Great way to see the sights and in all a great experience
that was NOT A PRIVATE TOUR as advertised. It’s was 7 in our group and many more joined us on a tour. Also, thebus didn’t pick us up at the hotel, we had to walk pretty far to it’s location and get transferred to another bus for actual tour, and our tour was in 2 languages, because half of the bus was of Italians. Overall walk and transfer killed about 1 hour. Not very professional and misadvertised.
The English tour was just 20 minutes, and I wished it was a little longer- 30 minutes. Tour guide was deeply knowledgeable and kept the tour group moving. The architecture, artwork, sculpture, and historical significance is apparent Favorite room was the great Hall where the crown is kept.
The tour was great. We were picked on time from were we stayed, the tour left almost on time (one couple were late). We spent the right amount of time in each local, no rush. And we arrived on time to our parliament tour, which was very impressive.
