Saw both sides of the beautiful harbor during fine weather and great receding light.

  • Kowloon: The Dark Side of Hong Kong Walking Tour

    4. Kowloon: The Dark Side of Hong Kong Walking Tour

When you visit Hong Kong, you must think Hong Kong is a city of prosperity: the beautiful skyline in Victoria Harbor, the men in suits and the many Tesla you see on the road. Underneath this prosperity is a capitalist system that has made basic living unaffordable. This tour is about revealing this unjust system. After this tour, you will not look at the Victoria Harbor the same way. Meet your guide at the Mong Kok MTR station and set off on your 2.5-hour walking tour in Mong Kok and Sham Shui Po. The first hour of the walking tour will focus on several local markets in Mong Kok and Prince Edward area. The next hour and a half of the tour focuses on the housing crisis in Hong Kong. Visit the Boundary Street Sport Center and hear about the housing cri...

This was an extremely interesting insight into the side not normally seen by tourists, particularly looking at the housing situation in a very crowded Hong Kong. S.P. was a great guide showing us the area with a lot of local knowledge and willing to answer all questions. There was a walk through the animal market, flower market and the bird market as well which started the tour off. There is a little walking but not onerous but wear comfortable shoes. Do not go if you are easily upset by seeing homeless people on the streets or if you may get upset by the living conditions seen.

Evangeline was the perfect host. We walked in the town a lot, took the metro to Kowloon and visited the Peak. Definitely worth having a guide for us as we were only in HK for a day and a half and we used the time well.
