Cai lay is a small village in Mekong delta, one of the less traveled parts of the Mekong just a quick drive away from HCMC. You will join the life of local people with some places: rice factory, local market, wood cutting workshop and rice fields.
What to Expect
After around 2 hours of driving, you arrive in Cai Lay, a small town that is less traveled than other parts of the Mekong delta. You will first visit Cai Lay market, a stunning rural market with full of local products such as fish, flowers, fruits. Here you can get some fruits and fresh food for your lunch. Then, proceed to a local house , take a break and join the locals to make some cakes, called “ Thuc linh”. Drink some tea with cakes you prepared by yourself.
Afterwards, take a short walk on local roads through village to get local boat station. You then enjoy a boat tour of one hour. See the rural life of the local people along the river. After that, you will enjoy a stunning and easy bike ride through some remote villages dotted with fruit trees stretching along the paddy fields and river (alternatively you can choose to enjoy the ride from the back-seat of a scooter driven by your driver). Stop at some place to drink coconut juice or sugar cane juice, chat with some local people to understand more their life. Try to get the the highest local bridge, called “ money bridge”. And learn how to take the very huge fishing net on the river.
You then visit a local furniture workshop and wood cutting workshop as well as a small rice factory that is still working with a very old machine and engine. You then get back to your local house to enjoy your lunch with Vietnamese food. After lunch, you return to Ho Chi Minh city. Take a short visit to a beautiful and colorful local Cao Dai Temple, to learn about the Vietnamese religion and Vinh Trang pagoda, the most beautiful pagoda in Mekong delta.
