What to Expect
Experience the “real” Vietnam on a 5-day bike tour of the Mekong Delta, and learn about life in the “rice bowl” at the southern tip of the nation. Your thrilling bike ride also features relaxing ferry journeys through mangrove forests and the typical floating markets of the region. Look out for Khmer monks and historic pagodas, as well as migrating birds and the bats of Soc Trang. The tour takes you to the border with Cambodia, where you have the option to end your ride. Alternatively, return to Ho Chi Minh City in time for dinner and an evening at leisure at the end of the tour.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - BenTre - Tra Vinh (08:00 - 17:00)
Depart Ho Chi Minh City in the morning, and drive to My Tho, crossing the Mekong River by ferry to stop for a break in a local orchard. Continue to Ben Tre, enjoying a wonderful afternoon of picturesque ferry crossings over the river's many branches and islands. See the beautiful Theravada pagodas of Tra Vinh, before dinner and an overnight stay in Tra Vinh at the Phuong Hoang Hotel.
Day 2: Tra Vinh - Soc Trang - Bac Lieu (08:00 - 16:30)
Get back on the bike after breakfast to ride to the Khmer pagodas around Soc Trang. Encounter the Khmer monks and look for the thousands of bats in the Khmer pagoda. Continue along a rural road to a snake farm, before driving to the Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary, home to about 50 different species of migratory birds, including graceful white herons. Overnight in Bac Lieu at the Hai Ho Hotel.
Day 3: Bac Lieu - Ca Mau - Rach Gia - Hon Chong (08:30 - 16:30)
Today, you will visit the mangrove swamps of Ca Mau at the southern tip of Vietnam. Stop for lunch in Ca Mau, before relaxing on a long-distance ferry boat through the immense mangrove forests. Upon arrival in Rach Gia, capture some souvenir photos of the river, before going to Hon Chong for dinner and an overnight stay at the Hai Van Hotel.
Day 4: Hon Chong - Ha Tien - Chau Doc (08:00 - 16:00)
Depart for the lively border town of Ha Tien after breakfast, before traveling along the Vinh Te border canal to Tinh Bien. Then, ascend the sacred Sam Mountain, enjoying panoramic views over vast plains of the Mekong Delta and far into Cambodia as you drive. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the Tai Ngan Hotel in Chau Doc.
Day 5: Chau Doc - Cao Lanh - Ho Chi Minh City (08:00 - 17:00)
After an early breakfast, travel by boat through an incredible riverside market. Pass the floating villages that farm fish in cages under the water. Continue by ferry and road to the Delta towns of Tan Chau and Hong Ngu, the former famous for its silk. After lunch, drive through the rural areas of Dong Thap and Long An, known as the “Big Rice Basket" of the Mekong Delta. Visit the floating markets typical of the region, and ride past the vast paddy fields, traveling a bumpy but scenic dirt road. Return to Ho Chi Minh City by 17:00 for the end of the tour services.
