Explore and gain knowledge from the fierce battles that took place in Long Tan - Nui Dat and visit Long Tan Cross, Horseshoe, Long Phuoc Tunnels, Nui Dat, and Ba Ria.
What to Expect
The tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City at 8:00am and depart for the trip by road. Your first stop will be the former Nui Dat Task Force base (Nui Dat SAS Hill). Little remains of this camp except for the columns of the main gate. The former runway is now a wide street in the local village and the old helipad is now a soccer field. A school established by the Australians is nearby.
Later, drive past the location of the Horseshoe (access not permitted these days due to mining activity) to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation and visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial. Long Tan is deeply etched into Anzac Folklore. In the late afternoon of August 18 1966, D Company (6 RAR) - despite being heavily outnumbered - fought off a large Viet Cong assault of regimental strength during a grueling 3-hour battle.
Afterwards, you will transfer to Ba Ria town for lunch. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Ho Chi Minh City and arrive back to your hotel at around 5:00pm.
