What to Expect
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City Discovery (-/-/-)

Our adventure starts with the morning walking tour to the Chinatown area of Ho Chi Minh City. Weaving our way through the maze of narrow side streets filled with traditional medicine stores, local Chinese restaurants and calligraphy kiosks, we have close-up looks at how local people go on with their daily lives. We also stop off at the Thien Hau pagoda. Following our walking tour, we will have lunch at a traditional local Vietnamese restaurant, where our local guide will explain the local specialties. After lunch we visit the War Remnants Museum, take a walking tour to Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and General Post office.

Overnight: 2 Star Tourist Class Hotel or 3 Star Tourist Class Hotel or 4 star Tourist Class Hotel

Day 2: Cao Dai Temple & Cu Chi Tunnel (B/L/-)

Leaving the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind we journey into the countryside to visit the Cao Dai Temple and Cu Chi Tunnels. We time our visit for the noon ceremony at the temples which provides an insight to this interesting religion. Today we have the opportunity to have lunch with a local family and learn about their daily life. After lunch, we continue to the Cu Chi Tunnels, these tunnels were built by local fighters during the Indochina conflict as a base from which the Viet Cong could operate from close to the Southern Vietnamese capital. Initial construction started in 1948 when the Viet Minh required somewhere to hide from French air attacks and by 1965, the tunnel complex was estimated to consist of 200km's of tunnels including hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens and sleeping quarters.

Day 3: Mekong Delta (B/L/D)

This morning you are picked up at Front entrance of the Saigon Opera House - Dong Khoi St, District 1 (intersection of Le Loi St) by our local guide at 08:00am and then set off for the Mekong Delta, visiting the unexplored Ben Tre town. The fertile Mekong Delta is famous for its abundant harvests of tropical fruits and flowers as well as boating along the canals. On arrival, we board our private boat and cruise along the maze of waterways to visit some local cottage industries. We hop on motor-cart to an out of the way village where you might have a chance to peek inside local homes for an insight into rural life seldom seen by the outside world and try some regional specialties for lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch we continue our journey by boat on narrow water creek along Mekong River's most beautiful Phoenix Islet to see fish farming. Towards the end of the day, we arrive at the home of a local family whose house is built on stilts over the water. These welcoming people will be your hosts for the evening and can tell you more about life in the Delta.

Overnight: Home-stay

Day 4: Mekong – Ho Chi Minh City - Departure (B/L/-)

Rising early to the sounds on the Delta on day 2, feast on a delicious breakfast before jumping on the bicycle to visit the local market, then back to homestay to help our host prepare lunch or gardening. After lunch, we say goodbye to the host and return to Ho Chi Minh City. Your South Vietnam Highlights adventures end upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to your hotel (around 5pm).
