What to Expect
Explore the wildlife sanctuary of Cát Tiên National Park on a 2-day tour from Ho Chi Minh City, and look for bird life, exotic fauna, and diverse plant life in the park’s evergreen tropical and deciduous forests.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Cat Tien (L, D)
Depart Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), and drive along National Highway 20 to the rubber and coffee plantations of the Đồng Nai Province mountains. A smooth 150-kilometer (93-mile) bus ride takes you to an extinct volcanic crater, known as “Lava Tubes.” Cross the Dong Nai River to enter Cat Tien National Park. Here, begin your wildlife adventure with a 3-hour trek through the Reserved Core Area. Look at the many different species of old growth trees, some of them hundreds of years old. Return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Cat Tien - Ho Chi Minh City (B, L)
Wake to the uplifting songs of native birds. After a good breakfast, take a 4-hour trek to Crocodile Swamp to look for signs of the aquatic reptiles. Other elusive wildlife in the park includes Javan rhinoceros (now thought to be extinct), Asian elephants and guar (also known as Indian bison). Return to the park center for lunch, before your transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City by bus.
