What people are saying about Hilo
Great transportation; enjoyed the short walk thro the lava tube at Kona coffee, other than that the stop was so so; the stop at the heritage village of the early ancestors was really informative and gave us a look at how they lived back then and their customs& beliefs; a side stop at the donut shop was very good, not only the donuts , but the variety of food for lunch; then off to the black sand beach, which was awesome with many green turtles up on the beach; Volcano National park was awesome and we could have spent many hours there. Then to Hilo and Rainbow Falls
Carl knew his fish. He knew what each fish we saw was. We found sleeping turtles. He took a picture of my husband & I under a complete rainbow. I really enjoyed this. Only, bring a towel. They provided everything for snorkling but no towels. I learned how to make sure a mask fits and how to clear it. I now think i can snorkle anywhere by myself. Thanks
Good overview of the island with time to explore areas on the tour. The lunch was late in the day. It was good, but looked like it would be larger than it was. The guide was pleasant and patient. Over half the passengers did not speak English as their first language, so there was not much banter as other tours usually have.
We had a great time. Nick was very informative about the island and the volcanos. We heard some really good stories about his local experiences around the island also. Would definitely recommend taking this tour if you have a whole day. The hikes over the lave flows and by the crater were fun.
Good tour if you want a sampler of Volcano National Park. Would have been nice to spend longer and do more of the trails around the park. Was very lucky there were only three of us on the tour that day. It was like a personalised tour! P.S. The brownie at lunch was delicious!
