  • Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Entry with Guided Walking Tour

    1. Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Entry with Guided Walking Tour

Join a guided tour of Knossos, a complex of more than 1500 interlocking rooms, once an astonishing palace built for a mighty king of the Bronze Age. Knossos is considered Europe’s oldest city.

As you wander through the labyrinthine ruins, get the chance to see the original throne of ‘’Minos”, the mystifying sanctuaries, the luxurious domestic quarters of the royal family, Crete’s treasures pantries, and the water-management systems.

The first palace of Knossos was erected soon after 2000 BC. In 1700 BC, a catastrophic earthquake destroyed the Palace. A new palace was built immediately, the most monumental of all, and for over 300 years it represented the pre-eminent center of power in Bronze Age Crete.

The new palace was an imposing complex with important architectural innovations, splendid frescoes...

I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Monoan civilization, hugely important but relatively unknown.

  • Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Ticket & Private Guided Tour

    4. Knossos Palace Skip-the-Line Ticket & Private Guided Tour

Settlements in Knossos date as far back as the Neolithic period. Neolithic remains from around 7000 BC are found throughout Crete. Explore the ruins of the ancient Minoan civilization and enjoy a skip-the-line tour of the Knossos Palace. The Knossos Palace was built from 1700 to 1400 BC. Advanced architectural techniques were used in its construction, and sections of the palace stood up to 5 stories high. It featured 1,300 rooms connected by corridors, and a theater and extensive storerooms, which held large clay containers of oil, grains, dried fish, beans and olives – often with gold hidden beneath.

Wonderful! My guide provided so much historical context, which made my visit more interesting and meaningful. He provided fascinating information you won't get from an audio guide!

  • From Heraklion: Full-Day Gramvousa and Balos Tour

    5. From Heraklion: Full-Day Gramvousa and Balos Tour

Following pick-up along the Malia to Agia Pelagia main road, travel by air-conditioned coach to the west of Crete. Stop at the small village of Skaleta, near Rethimnon. Enjoy a cup of coffee or breakfast and then continue to Kissamos to board a boat and start your cruise. Admire a vast cave that was most likely an ancient shipyard. See sea turtles and dolphins playing in the water. Marvel at the geological phenomenon of the simultaneous lifting and sinking of 2 sides of the island: the western side rises 6 to 9 meters above sea level. Disembark on the island of Gramvousa, with its Venetian castle. Also known as "Pirates' Island," Gramvousa used to be a hiding place for rebels. The broader area of Gramvousa forms one of the most significant hydro-biotopes of the eastern Mediterranean. Here, you can encounter over 100 bird and 400 plant species. Enjoy plenty of free time to swim at a go...

It was a good experience. Only few points to raise: the pick-up was 30 mins late. It was very windy and the boat was packed, it took very long to get off the boat, so shorter time was available to stay on the beach. If you choose to walk up to the castle, beware that there is no health and safety, few places was very dangerous, I would not do it again. Otherwise the view was beautiful, it is worth the hassle and money but the terrible wind made the experience less enjoyable.

  • Day Tour: Spinalonga, Elounda, Agios Nikolaos, & Kolokitha

    9. Day Tour: Spinalonga, Elounda, Agios Nikolaos, & Kolokitha

You will be picked up from the Heraklion area and taken along the picturesque northeast coast through the gorge of St George, reaching the small fishing village of Elounda. Today Elounda is a popular holiday resort, often visited by celebrities for the luxurious white beaches. From there, take the boat to the small island of Spinalonga. The history and the culture of Spinalonga are laced with different diverse strands of history. In Ancient Greek times it served as a natural guard for the city of Olous; later it was used as a hide-out for Saracen pirates, turned into a fortress by the Venetians, and later settled by the Turks.  After your guided tour of the island, escape to the small sandy pirate bay of Kolokitha, where the boat will be anchored. Swim in the crystal clear waters, and then savor a delicious barbecue served on board. Later the boat returns to Elounda, where you take the...

  • Santorini: Full-Day Tour from Crete

    10. Santorini: Full-Day Tour from Crete

Visit Santorini, the island neighboring Crete, and enjoy a short cruise in just 1 day. After pick-up from your hotel, head to the harbor and begin your 4-hour boat tour on the Cretan Sea. Upon arrival, see the white houses of Fira that lie high above the edge of the crater, and decide whether you would like to spend more time on this volcanic island. Wander the small town of Fira or visit the picturesque town of Oia. Enjoy the leisurely Greek lifestyle and visit a taverna or 2. Relax on the beach, enjoy the day by the sea, and simply leave your cares behind.

Well organized. I left from Rethymno. It would have been a better tour if the ferry trip had taken 2 hours in each direction and the extra 2 hours could behave been spent between Oia and Fira/Thira. That said, we got to see beautiful parts of Santorini and had some time to shop and sample Santorini cuisine. A very good tour.

Very nice! Our guides were very informative and helpful and it was amazing to scuba dive for the first time! Directions were very clear from an English-speaking perspective. We also were provided lots of water. Only issue I ran into was the tour was not actually 1.5 hours long. It was more like 5 hours with the wait time!

Very long and very hot, exhausting day but so worth it to visit the gorge! Please be prepared with actual hiking shoes or you will not make it through the entire hike. Water is frequently available at rest areas on the journey. The gorge is worth it and beautiful!

Wonderful! My guide provided so much historical context, which made my visit more interesting and meaningful. He provided fascinating information you won't get from an audio guide!

We enjoyed the trip a lot! The hosts are very friendly and take great care of everyone, especially beginners. Thank you for the great day!

Departure very late but quickly forgotten by a great experience!
