What to Expect
RideTheRim of the Waipi’o Valley is an unforgettable Waterfall Adventure tour in Hawaii. Ideal for a family day out, and for those with a sense of adventure, you will be heading through lush forests of eucalyptus and ginger, in what was once sacred royal land.

Jump off and swim in a waterfall, or just have your breath taken away by the beautiful views of Hawaii. ATV and buggy tours operate by reservation twice per day.

The 3-hour tour, departing from Kukuihaele, will take you along trails with panoramic vistas, from the mile-wide black sand beach, to the 1,200-foot splendor of the twin Hi‘ilawe Falls, Hawaii's highest single-fall waterfall.

Inhabited by 50 generations of Hawaiians for over 1,000 years, it is a place that time forgot. Serene, awe inspiring, and majestic - the very essence of why visitors flock to the islands, Waipi‘o Valley is of premiere importance in old Hawaiian legends. Discover a mystical place that was once the political and religious center of Hawaii, the birthplace, home, and burial ground of Hawaiian royalty for a millennium. This is an authentic and original experience.

Known as the 'Valley of Kings', it radiates with a resounding mana (power) from its 2,000-foot sheer walls, to the amazing abundance of the valley floor below.

Swim and wash off the dust of the trails, under a secluded waterfall at the top of the valley, before the same water disappears over the pali (cliff) as Hi'ilawe Falls. The water is about 72 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Changing facilities are quite primitive, so wear your swimsuits under your clothing and bring a towel!

Meeting Point

48-5452 Kukuihaele Rd Honokaa, Hi 96727 From Hilo: From the Bayfront area downtown, follow the signs to Hamakua Coast, north on Highway 19. Go about 40 miles to Honoka'a Town, and take the right off the highway into town. Go all the way through town, and follow the signs straight ahead to Waipi'o Valley. The main road in downtown Honoka'a becomes Highway 240 as it leaves Honoka'a toward the valley. At about the 8 mile marker, you will see a sign to Kukuihaele. Take that right fork and come down about 1.5 miles, and look for Waipi'o Valley Artworks, the place with the great art, ugly red roof, and blue umbrellas on the porch next to the American flag.
