Overview
Enjoy a day trip from Hanoi straight into the heart of Buddhism on a visit to the Perfume Pagoda. Experience a mix of beautiful landscape and rich culture as you venture into the limestone Huong Tich mountains to explore a complex of temples and shrines.
What to Expect
Spend a day learning about Buddhism and touring the Perfume Pagoda complex of temples and shrines in the Huong Son Commune on an 8-hour trip from Hanoi. The Perfume Pagoda was built during the reign of Le Chinh Hoa (1680-1705) by a monk who happened on the site on his way to find enlightenment.

In the morning, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel, transferring you to the Perfume Pagoda (Chua Huong), located 43.5 miles (70 kilometers) away from Hanoi. Upon arrival, board a sampan (flat-bottomed wooden boat) and cruise along the Yen River until you reach the Thien Tru Pagoda. You will also see the Den Trinh Temple and other pagodas and shrines in the area.

As you travel, admire the uniqueness of Huong Son, an area surrounded by limestone mountains, rivers, and forest, appearing like an oasis in the middle of the great plains of northern Vietnam. Enjoy a picnic lunchbox or lunch in local restaurant before starting the hike up to Giai Oan Pagoda and Huong Tich Cave. You may also use transportation via cable car if you prefer. The cave houses the inner temple, and inside you will see many religious statues, as well as stalactites and stalagmites.
