What to Expect
This 7-day tour by motorbike of northern Vietnam takes you through 6 provinces and close to the border with Laos and China. You will get to meet some of the hill tribes of the region, who have lived their lives in this remote region for centuries. You will explore some of the locations for the war of independence against the French, and you will leave your motorbike behind of a day to take a stunning hike in the hills.

Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau
Depart from Hanoi and wind your way to Hoa Binh town, through the villages and valleys of Ha Tay and Hoa Binh province. Break for lunch in Hoa Binh town, and visit the power plant before riding up green-clad hills to Kun Pass and onto well-maintained roads that offer spectacular views over the valleys and mountains.

Arrive in Lac village of the White Thai people in Mai Chau before dark, check in at a stilt house, then take a short walk to get your bearings. After dinner you will have the chance to join in with the traditional dance of the White Thais, and taste Ruou Can - a local wine made from rice and a kind of tree leaf. Spend the night in a stilt house of the White Thais.

Day 2: Mai Chau – Son La 90 miles (150 kilometers)
After an inclusive breakfast, drive to Son La and stop at Moc Chau where cows graze in the towering grass, making it the biggest milk center in Vietnam. Continue to Son La and enjoy the stunning views of the mountains. You will arrive at Son La at around midday where you can check into your hotel, before visiting an ancient prison that dates from the war with France. Take a stroll around the town center and settle down for the night in Son La.

Day 3: Son La - Dien Bien Phu 110 miles (180 kilometers)
Leave Son La and pass Tuan Giao town, where we will stop for lunch before continuing the drive to Dien Bien Phu, location for a famous defeat of the French by the Vietnamese during the struggle for independence. You will visit old battlefields, the War Museum and other historic attractions.

Day 4: Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau – Tam Duong 115 miles (190 kilometers)
Today we will drive through Lai Chau, taking a lunch break in the old town before heading off on a scenic drive to Tam Duong. You will see the most beautiful hill tribes in northern Vietnam, with their rich variety of clothes and homes, such as H'Mong, Black Thai, Black Dzao, and Pazi. Discover their traditions and customs during your overnight stay in Tam Duong.

Day 5: Tam Duong – Sapa 50 miles (80 kilometers)
Depart Sapa after breakfast and stop at Binh Lu to visit the Binh Lu Market of the Lu Hill Tribe, who are also known as The Black Teeth Tribe. You can go trekking for several hours in the hills as an optional extra. Pass Tram Ton Pass, 6,560-foot (2000 meters) above sea level, and see the remarkable Fansipan Peak and Silver Waterfall.

After you arrive in Sapa, check in to your hotel and explore Sapa by night.

Day 6: Sapa Lao - Chai and Ta Van Village (Trekking and Homestay)
Today you will leave your motorbike at the hotel and trek down to Muong Hoa Valley and Lao Chai village, where you will visit the Black H'Mong tribe. Have a refreshing picnic lunch on the way, then continue to the bottom of Sapa Valley to Ta Van village, said to be one of the most beautiful villages in the area.

You will spend the night at a homestay, getting to know the local family and experiencing village life at close-hand.

Day 7: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa
After breakfast, head up to Giang Ta Chai village of the Red Zdao tribe, where you will take lunch. Enjoy spectacular scenery and beautiful waterfalls during the afternoon, before being picked up by motorbike or jeep. Ride back to Sapa and stop on the way to take photos of the fabulous Sapa Valley. You will get the chance to take a hot shower before departing for Hanoi on the overnight train from Lao Cai, arriving in Hanoi at about 05:00 of the following morning, where it is sadly time to say goodbye at the end of your tour.
