Take a spectacular trip to Ninh Binh and float along the Boi River to visit the 3 enormous caves of Tam Coc. See local fisher folk at work, explore the villages along the river and visit the remaining temples of the ancient Vietnamese capital of Hoa Lu.
What to Expect
Spend a day exploring the Boi River and former Vietnamese capital of Hoa Lu on this full-day tour from Hanoi.
You will depart Hanoi at 08:00 and head south for a 2-hour drive along Highway One. Your first destination is the Dinh and Le sanctuaries where you will spend an hour exploring the 2 remaining temples of the ancient citadel of Hoa Lu.
The first temple is dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang, also known as Dinh Bo Linh, an Emperor from the Dinh Dynasty. The second commemorates the rulers of the Le Dynasty. Dinh Bo Linh successfully conquered Vietnam’s first independent rulers, the Ngo Dynasty. On his death in 980, General Le Hoan wisely married Dinh’s widow, established the Le Dynasty and enlarged the citadel.
Move on to the spectacular caves of Tam Coc. You will take a 3-hour boat trip along the Boi River. This area is often referred to as the Ha Long Bay on land due to the similar karst limestone topography. Float serenely through the natural caves, soaking up the beautiful atmosphere and enjoying the flora and fauna.
See local women selling embroidered goods and take souvenir snapshots of the villages that line the banks of the river. You will return to Hanoi at approximately 18:00, where you can be dropped off at your hotel.
