What to Expect
You’ll bet met at your Hanoi hotel by the tour guide and head out by car on a full-day tour of the Vietnamese capital.

First you’ll visit the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. See his house on stilts, the botanical garden, and the Presidential Palace, while learning about his life and revolutionary involvement.

On your way out you’ll see the 1-Pillar Pagoda, constructed in 1049 by King Ly Thai Tong. In a dream he saw a bodhisattva seating on a lotus flower, which led him to the pagoda. The original was destroyed in 1954 by the French before their withdrawal.

Visit the Temple of Literature, which includes both the Confucius Temple, dating from 1070, and the first Royal National University in Vietnam, built in 1076.

Now it’s time for a lunch break, and you’ll have a chance to enjoy some traditional Vietnamese favorites. Afterwards, you’ll visit the country’s Ethnology Museum.

Located west of the city center, this museum offers informative and well-documented displays on Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups, including elaborate and colorful hill-tribe costumes, weaving designs, musical instruments, fishing implements, work tools, and other functional objects.

Visit Ho Hoan Kiem or the Lake of the Restored Sword, situated in the heart of Hanoi. On an island in the northern part of the lake stands Ngoc Son or Jade Mountain Temple, one of the most important religious sites of the capital.

The temple is dedicated to the spirits of the soil, medicine, literature, and also to Tran Hung Dao, the general who defeated the Mongols in the 13th century.
