You leave Hanoi for the village of Dong Ho, famous for the ancient painting technique of wood block printing. Folk painting is one of the special cultural features of Vietnam. See these beautiful paintings for yourself, spend some time with local villagers and learn about the fascinating techniques and materials used.
Next you drive to But Thap Pagoda where you will find one of the finest pagodas in all of Vietnam and known as Vietnam's first Buddhist center. Spend some time exploring the pagoda and look out for the Avalokitesvara or Goddess of Mercy statue. With no fewer than 11 faces, and 994 eyes and arms, the statue is a beautiful and enchanting sight that you won't want to miss.
Next you will enjoy a picnic lunch before moving on to Dau Pagoda, once the most important center for Vietnamese Buddhism. Here you will marvel at the 17-meter high Hoa Phong Tower, constructed in the 6th Century.
