Mallorca: Half-Day Hams' Caves Tour with Pearl Shop Visit

The Hams' Caves, dating back over 10 million years, have been a hidden gem until their discovery in 1905 by speleologist Pedro Caldentey Santandreu (1886-1950). Caldentey stumbled upon these natural wonders while searching for onyx, a precious stone found abundantly in the region. In 1910, Pedro Caldentey achieved a remarkable feat by generating electricity to illuminate the caves, even before the village of Porto Cristo had access to electric power. Using a water mill, a dynamo, and a water tank, he managed to produce 16 hours of electric current daily, allowing visitors to explore the caves. Today, visitors can experience the Blue Cave, enhanced with spectacular new blue LED lighting. Here, you can watch the educational documentary “Discovering the Past,” which delves into the history of Majorca, its early inhabitants, the formation of the Hams' Caves, and their discovery.

We were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the tour all by ourselves. The first film at the beginning was informative. The second film was a journey through time with only sounds and was totally fascinating in this atmosphere. We had enough time to look at and listen to everything. The musical performance at the end totally captivated us and we could have stayed longer, even though we are not fans of classical music. We really enjoyed it and the guides were very nice.

A nice trip that was well organized. The tour guide, who gave a lot of information about the history, buildings and many other things on this island in 3 languages during the trip, did it in a humorous, relaxed manner. I can highly recommend this tour.

Sebas, our guide, was fantastic. Doing the tour in four languages at once made the bus ride enjoyable. The pick-up details were easy and comfortable. The access to the caves was also an incredibly beautiful experience. I will recommend the tour😊

Wonderful trip. The meeting point directions and text message just need to be align and be more clear. The address sent via text was not in full and didn’t even align I had to get help from my hotel receptionist in order to know where to go.

We were on the last trip of the season. The boat is comfortable and modern. On the middle deck nice soft seats. We saw many dolphins, there was enough time to enjoy that. The swimming stop was also fine. Friendly crew. Really recommended!
