Enjoy a tour through the colorful Schanzenviertel, finding out how the left-wing district has evolved. Visit the former Rote Flora, and wander through the artisinal alleyways, before finishing the tour at Millerntor stadium.
What to Expect
Discover Hamburg's Schanzenviertel and learn all you need to know about its development from an industrial district to the epicenter of colorful, lively culture.
Begin your tour at the historic Sternschanze station (U3 line). After looking at what was once the largest water tower in Europe, wander through Sternschanzen Park in the "Schanze" neighborhood, considered a hip district since the 1980s.
Stroll past back courtyard developments and multicultural streets as you make your way to the Rote Flora, a former theater on Schulterblatt. Continue further, through the historic craftwork alleyways, along Beckstraße, to the former "Central-Schlachthof," the central slaughterhouse of Hamburg, which supplied the city's urban markets with meat in the 19th century.
The tour will end at Feldstraße's U3 station, which is surrounded by the Medienbunker (a former anti-aircraft tower), an old defensive tower, the Millerntor stadium, and the Heiligengeistfeld area.
