Experience the spectacular landscapes of the Mani Peninsula on a private day trip from Kalamata. Stop at small villages with stunning views and ancient churches. Cross the dramatic gulf of Itilo, and then enter the subterranean tunnels of Diros Caves.
What to Expect
Depart Kalamata and journey by luxurious, air-conditioned vehicle to the Mani Peninsula. Stop at the village of Kardamyli for a coffee and to take in the spectacular views. Continue to Stoupa to marvel at the beauty of its beaches.
Then, see how the landscape changes as you enter inner Mani and discover villages that "climb" up the hills of the wild and beautiful mountains. Learn the historical elements that make Mani such a magical place. Along the way, stop at some of the 11th and 12th-century churches you will encounter, each providing a glimpse into the rich history of the region.
Continue towards Diro (Pyrgos Dirou), famous for the Diros Caves. Cross the gulf of Itilo to reach the caves, admiring a colorful landscape of wild mountains and turquoise waters along the way. Upon arrival at the top of Mani, between Diro and Aeropolis, find the entrance to the Diros Caves just a few meters above sea level. Walk down a stairway to the entrance of the caves, and then enter by boat as your guides use poles to journey through the caverns and tunnels. You will be given a life vest for your comfort and safety.
See the stunning stalactites and stalagmites of the eerily-lit caves, and learn some of their interesting names. Travel through sections just wide enough for your boat to pass through, and enter an enormous subterranean room where you can hear voices from the other boats in the distance.
