Your excursion begins with a ride through the Ponderosa Pines of Flagstaff, past the dormant volcanoes of the San Francisco Peaks, and on to the Navajo Reservation where you will have a chance to shop for authentic Native American souvenirs at the Historic Cameron Trading Post.
You will get breathtaking views of the western edge of the Painted Desert and the Little Colorado River Gorge as you drive.
Inside the magnificent Grand Canyon National Park you will have time to take in the beautiful views of the Canyon and Colorado River at Desert View. Climb to the top of the Watchtower Observatory for amazing vistas that will take your breath away.
Visit the East and South Rims of the Grand Canyon from where you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Colorado River Gorge and the buttes of the South Rim. At this point you will get the chance to interact intimately with the exquisite scenery as you take a mile-long nature walk along the South Rim.
Pause for lunch at the Grand Canyon Village. Afterwards visit the Canyon’s historic buildings and museums, such as Hopi House, the rustic El Tovar Lodge, the Grand Canyon Railway Station and Kolb Studio.
It took nature 2 billion years to create this immense chasm, but you can get to know it in a single day. Returning to Flagstaff, take one last look over your shoulder as the Canyon fades against the desert backdrop. Before you are dropped off at your hotel you will stop by the National Geographic Visitor Center in Tusayan.
