This 4-hour from Girona excursion takes you back to medieval Catalonia. You discover Montgrí Castle, the forests growing from the ocean, and untouched beaches. Discover the unique landscapes of Montgrí and the Costa Brava. You also enjoy magnificent views of l’Empordà and the bays of Roses and l'Estartit as well as the regions of Girona and Selva. Here you can enjoy views of the surrounding area including Gavarres, Montseny, and the Medes islands.
Enjoy a nice and easy circular trekking route for 3 hours and discover the ancient history of the area. Montgrí Castle is built up on the mountain, 315 meters above sea level and only 6 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. The castle is a symbol of the town and its architecture was influenced by the Middle East, which became very popular after the Crusades during the 12th and 13th centuries.
You also visit the Santa Caterina Hermitage. According to the legend, it was founded in 1392 by 3 monks from the Montserrat Monastery: Bartomeu Cabotas, Pere Tarascó, and Berentguer Desguell. It is late Gothic building from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Catalan writer Victor Catalá was inspired by this environment and it was here that he wrote the novel Solitud.
