The ancient walled city of Girona stands on a fortress-like hill, high above the confluence of the Onyar and Ter rivers. As the provincial capital, it has a long and distinguished history. Founded by Iberians, the Romans later named it Gerunda and established it as an important stopping point on the Via Augusta, linking Iberia with Rome. But the most important time for the city was the middle ages, due to its location near the french border the city was under siege several times, so its main buildings are from that time. Girona has the huge 15th century cathedral, boasting the widest unsupported gothic arch in the world which dominates the skyline. Much of the city's attraction lies in exploring the medieval streets, especially around the charming Jewish quarter. In the lower part of the city, you will enjoy spectacular images of steep alleyways and the brightly painted façades of the houses overlooking the Onyar river which provide the most emblematic image of the city.  Among the bridges that span the river are the lightweight Gómez bridge and the Ferreries Velles bridge which was designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1877. Our trip to Girona and Costa Brava was absolutely unforgettable. A special shoutout to our guide, Guilio, whose energy, enthusiasm, and warm personality made the experience even more exceptional. His deep knowledge of Catalan culture was truly impressive, and he went above and beyond to engage us, even preparing videos in advance to enrich our understanding. Guilio was not only friendly and joyful but also extremely punctual and professional throughout. We had an amazing time and wholeheartedly recommend 'Be Outdoors Barcelona' for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Catalunya.

Will was an excellent guide- very well informed and entertaining in his delivery. He answered all our inquiries and provided useful information outside of the trip content. As there were 2 non English speakers on this English tour, Will had to give explanations in both Spanish and English. It made conversation among the group difficult and slowed down the pace of the tour.

Ana translated in both English and Spanish for a small group. The history is so rich, it is well worth having a guide. I can’t imagine walking through Girona and missing out on all the information Ana provided!

Antoine is an excellent guide. He is very attentive, shares history and facts that were interesting! In addition, Antoine helped me navigate how to use the train system in Barcelona. I am forever thankful!!!

Walking tour of Girona with very knowledgeable Mike, would recommend any visitors doing this tour, we saw things that we know we would have missed without this tour.
