AGAETE: WILD NORTH COAST AND COFEE PLANTATION. PHOTO TOUR

AGAETE: WILD NORTH COAST AND COFEE PLANTATION. PHOTO TOUR

From the capital of the island, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, we head northwest. We take the road that takes us along the coast towards the picturesque Agaete valley. On our first stop, we go to Sardina's lighthouse. This unique historical building has served as a guide since ancient times for canaries and pirates of our wild coast. Silent witness to the passage of time, in front of it we will feel wrapped in the sea breeze that hits the horizon, dancing with the waves. Next to this lighthouse, we see interesting points on the coast: ports, pools carved from stones next to the sea, sea rocks and the energy of the Atlantic Ocean shaping the coastline. Afterwards, we leave for another obligatory stop on your trip through Gran Canaria: its caves. We will visit a special cave with magical formations and colors. Here we can learn and connect with the not-so-distant history of those first settlers, who had great knowledge about different sciences, developing throughout the island's geography. We continue our route towards the port of Agaete and its streets full of an important fishing lifestyle, a quiet place on the shores of a beach and an important pier. Then, we enter the magical Agaete valley to contemplate the majesty of the cliff, one of the seven largest sea cliffs in the world and the highest in Europe. Wrapping around the cliff we have the lungs of our Island: the Tamadaba pine forest. In this splendid valley we find another great protagonist: the water. These waters were believed to be medicinal and were part of a legacy of welness centres all over the island. This healthy experiences were the basis for the first tourists that came a century ago. It should be noted that this same valley is the spectator of the most popular and important festival in Agaete: "La Rama". Our next stop is a hacienda in this valley to have a guided tour of the coffee plantation, their fruit trees and its winery. Finally we will end up on a beautiful terrace with views and of course, do a wine and coffee tasting. It is accompanied by a tasting of cheese and bread with chorizo, etc. local products frequently consumed by the population. This entrance and tasting has a price of €12 per person, which is paid on the spot, no reservation is necessary. For those who do not want to enter the farm, we will take an easy path that will take us to a high area to be able to observe this beautiful valley from another perspective. Therefore, the visit to the winery is optional, being replaced by a walk of the same duration as the visit: 1.5 Hours. After this excursion in the wild north of Gran Canaria, we have to take the return transport and return to Las Palmas. You can consult other visits to different parts of the island or ask us about a private, tailored tour.

It was a really nice daytrip! Tom (our tourguide) really knows a lot about Gran Canaria and he gives a lot of information. He is really friendly and he loves his job I think :) the bus driver was also experienced and it is important, because he needs to drive in narrow spaces. We were a lot in the bus, since we drove more than 200km, but it does not matter which side of the bus you sit, you will see a lot. The lunch was OK, but it was fine for the price (13€/person) - this was optional

What I liked the most was we visited many traditional things of the Island, like La aldea, plant tree… However, the stop in Las Palmas in the Shopping center could be improved. I mean, to visit another part of Las Palmas could have been great.

It was a super informative, friendly and varied trip. I was able to get to know many new impressions and places with historical backgrounds. Many thanks to the tour guide and driver.

Loved this trip, getting to see right round the island and places we wouldn’t have seen otherwise , guide was great

Very nice trip to get to know the green north of the island.
