Full description
From Funchal, head to Serra d'Agua, a valley at the centre of the island. Afterwards, go to Encumeada viewpoint with its great views over north and south of the island, a high point that connects Ribeira Brava, São Vicente, and Paúl da Serra. After passing Chão dos Louros Forest Park, whose name comes from the abundance of laurels trees, take a nice off-road drive with fantastic views over Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela, Paul da Serra, and São Vicente. Then, have a fabulous experience with a very important wine producer in Madeira, enjoying a guided tour through the vineyards, followed with a wine tasting and traditional tapa. Enjoy a professional explanation about traditions, wine culture and wine production given by an oenologist. Finally, move on to Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe and second in the world at 589 meters, known for its suspended glass floor balcony that offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Atlantic, Câmara de Lobos, and Funchal.

It was an exciting tour with the jeep through a wonderful area. Ruben, our guide, was extremely friendly, accommodating, and humorous. Since I did not understand everything during the wine tasting, he instinctively translated the difficult passages into French. He has an incredibly broad knowledge of the island, history and botany. The mood was great. Full ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️.

We had a fantastic tour with Tony. He showed us the island and explained a lot about nature and culture. We discovered some little roads up and down the hill and in the end enjoyed some delicious wine with a stunning view. Our group was fantastic - we'll come back to Madeira.

I liked the tour a lot, and was able to experience Madeira in a unique way. We started at the overlook (way cool but tourist packed), then drove through the back roads, went to a winery to try still wines, and finished with a local poncha joint. Some ideas for improvement: the off-roading aspect could be more clear. I thought we would be driving through wineries with the 4x4; instead we were driving through waterfalls and backroads. The guide could provide more history of Madeira rather than speaking just to the current state of the island. Finally, it was cool to try the still wines, but might be nice to try some Madeira wine too (especially since the winery we went to is associated with the Blandy’s).
