What People Are Saying About Funchal

Good group leader, good scenery and good food

The group leader picked up on time, the bus was equipped with voice amplification which was good for the people in the rear of the bus. We were given an interesting commentary as we toured around this scenic historical area, well done Kate? We had the lunch which was good, home made and pleasant change to Hotel grub.

Stunning Scenery Fantastic Guide Phillip

We had a fantastic day on the East Tour and Levada Walk. Phillip was a fantastic guide and ensured he gave us all the information to enjoy our day. His knowledge of the island and explanations of the microclimate were second to none. There was such diversity in the scenery and the mountain views were breathtaking we feel very lucky to have seen them. Lunch was included in this tour and it was in a restaurant that was set in to the rock, the food and the service were very good. The day passed very quickly and all too soon we were back down to the hustle and bustle of Funchal. Once again top marks to Phillip for ensuring our party had a great day.

The journey is just as beautiful as the waterfalls themselves.

Opodo do not do the tours themselves but lease these out to other companies. In this instance a company called Lido Tours. Our guide Sara was very friendly and warm and explained all of the names and characteristics of the plants and trees that we saw on the walk. The walk was done at a steady pace, but still good enough to travel the 11km in a good time frame. If you're like me and struggle to walk up hills without getting short of breath then don't worry because whilst you drop down deep in the valley at the beginning of the walk the end point is via a 15 minute walk through a tunnel in one of the mountains. The only downside of the trip is that you have to focus on your footing alot which meant that sometimes you didn't' get the chance to appreciate the scenery around you. Despite that though it was a great day out and I would recommend it to anyone.

I felt underprivileged: the guide didn't speak only my language ;)

Since the group was very international, our guide Bruno, had to repeat everything three times: in Portuguese, English and German so that the tourists could get all the information in their respective languages. I speak everyone else's language, he spoke everyone else's language, but Bulgarian, and I felt underprivileged ;) As a matter of fact, Bruno was a great guide, the tour was interesting and fun: an easy way to get to know the western part of the island.

An interesting and easy way to get to know a part of this paradise

The group was fun, the guide was fun, the weather was nice. What else do you need? I only needed more time to enjoy the places we visited, but I guess I would need to come back again to do so... ;)
