Amazing scenery and the tour guide was lovely. We went in July - peak tourist season- and so the hike was very busy and it felt like we were a train of people at times, and as the path is often too narrow for two people to pass, there was a lot of stopping and waiting around. We had a great time still but had previously done this hike in April, and preferred it as it was much quieter.

A really great hike! Great prospects! We were picked up punctually at the hotel in Funchal, picked up more people and were at the starting point at 9:15 am. It started 20 minutes later. The pace was average and advertised at 3-4 km/h. Due to various photo stops we were a bit slower. Our guide explained a lot, both on the bus ride there and back and on the hike. Return trip was with a short stop in Santana. Personally, the hike was very strenuous for me (56 years old, f.). It was sweltering hot (pack plenty of water) and also very crowded on the trail. The steps/stairs/ladders to the top are tough in the second part of the hike. Despite all the effort, it was totally worth it! But be careful, you must have a good basic level of fitness and stamina.

It was a really great hike with beautiful views. The landscape is an absolute dream. It was just a pity that the guide hardly ever stopped to enjoy the view or to have a drink. Because it was very warm where we were, a few drinking breaks would have been important. Otherwise, the pickup and return worked great. We would definitely recommend the tour because of the breathtaking nature. However, you should also be a bit fit.
