What People Are Saying About French Quarter
I liked that our guide spoke of the folklore aspect of these stories...that somewhere within folklore is rooted some kind of truth or initial event. Some of these stories are verifiable historically, some not so much, but it made for a spine tingling adventure.
Robert was a great guide! He was entertaining and accommodating when we needed a break. The only issue had nothing to do with the quality of our guide - it was with finding space with SO MANY tours happening on top of each other with other guide groups. It got a little crazy several times with groups crossing paths and getting confused which was their group. We often had to hear the story of a place half a block away because of all the other groups.
This is not a ghost tour, but a tour and history lesson of the origins and history of New Orleans that is in turns, funny, sad, and always entertaining. The 2 hour walk really is about 30 minutes of walking with discussions and stops along the way making it easy for all fitness types. Even in August, it's a snap. The history lesson runs the gambit from literature to corruption to pirates to drugs to the mob -- none of which are unrelated. The history lesson is delivered in a rapid-paced, entertaining manner which engaging and thought provoking. A thoroughly enjoyable tour which will be the highlight of your trip.
Booked this tour after finding it highly-rated, and I enjoyed it. Miss Emily was enthusiastic and can tell a good story, there's a bathroom-and-beer break at just the right time and the overall tour is about the right length. The meeting place, Flanagan's Pub, won't be to everyone's taste but that shouldn't affect enjoyment of the tour. Personally, I liked the place and would recommend this ghost tour.
Overall a great tour with lots of interesting information. Be prepared to walk! The only downside was the loud drunks and vehicles that kept interrupting the tour. Not the tour guides fault...she was good with staying on track despite almost being moved down by cards a few times!
