On this 3.5-hour excursion you’ll head out of Rome with your private driver to the wooded hills of Castelli Romani. The name of the area translates as Roman castles, but in reality it simply refers to a collection of wine-producing hills just southeast of Rome. The tour, priced for a group of up to 4 people, stops at Antico Casale, where you’ll meet the winemaker and then tour the vineyard and cellars. Learn how the wine is produced and maybe even sample a grape fresh off of the vine. After the winery tour, you’ll sit down for a tasting session and sample 3 varieties of wine that are produced here. The first wine you’ll taste is a white Frascati DOCG, which means the wine has its designation of origin guaranteed. The second is a red wine IGP, which has a protected geographical indication. And last but not least, taste a sweet Cannellino wine.  Each wine is paired with a delicious Ita...

Everything was smooth, from the pick-up at the hotel until return. We got very nice explanation about grapes, olives and production and saw really nice scenery. The wine tasting was 2 white and 1 red wine which we really enjoyed together with small finger foods. We also got more insight to how to fully enjoy the aroma and the wine. • Frascati & Castelli Romani Private Wine Tour from Rome

    7. Frascati & Castelli Romani Private Wine Tour from Rome

A very interesting fact about this area in the Lazio region, the ancient town of Tusculum - now Frascati - is that the archeological discoveries demonstrate the cultivation of grapes for wine since the 5th century B.C. It was one of the preferred wines of Ancient Rome, Renaissance Popes, poets and artists visiting in the Grand Tour 1700s and 1800s, and of the La Dolce Vita generation in the 1960s. The Frascati DOC/DOCG area is located in the heart of the Castelli Romani, Tuscolum and Albani Hills south of Rome, and north of Lake Albano. Through a private car transfer (which takes about 45 minutes each way), you will arrive at your destination in the Frascati area, where you will meet your guide for the tour. During this experience you'll walk in the vineyards where the history of the Frascati wine begins. From the vineyards, you'll then be guided inside the winery to explore the wine c...

Punctual pickup and very pleasant drive to the winery in a spacious car. The son of the house first showed the vineyards and gave explanations. Very interesting. Then we went to the wine tasting in a great, stylish old ambience. Three excellent wines with exquisite small snacks. It was worth it! We only found three wines a little bit less for a wine tasting with the price, but they were probably the best. Unfortunately, the time was then a bit short because the driver was pushing back to Rome.

Really good experience

Great views of Rome, from the vineyard. The train ride itself was an experience, with beautiful scenery. Good guided tour and lovely breakfast.

We loved this! Frascati is beautiful. Our tour guide, Daniella, was absolutely wonderful!
