A visit to Florence must include a visit to one of the most important art galleries in the world: the Uffizi. Visit this special, splendid museum with a professional guide.
What to Expect
If you come to Florence, even for few days, the Uffizi Gallery is a must if you're interested in art. Even if you're not, just take a look at the splendour of the place.
The Uffizi was built by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 for Cosimo I de' Medici, to house the offices of the Florentine magistrates, hence the name "uffizi", meaning offices.  Then, Cosimo's son, Francesco I commissioned his best architect, Buontalenti to design a special room for him, the Tribuna degli Uffizi, where he could store a precious collection and series of masterpieces in just one room. Thereafter, more sections of the palace were recruited to exhibit paintings and sculptures collected or commissioned by the Medici Family.

Today the gallery preserves hundreds of paintings from the 13th-18th centuries, including works by Giotto, Piero della Francesca, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and more.
