Go to Piazza della Repubblica and hear about the city’s Roman origins. Then, head to the religious center to see the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery of St. John, and Giotto’s Campanile. Walk past an ancient oratory situated adjacent to the former home of Dante Alighieri. Continue along crowd free streets to Ponte Vecchio. Enter Piazza Signoria through the Uffizi Courtyard, and admire the façade of the Palazzo Vecchio and the famous statues of the Loggia dei Lanzi.
Next, skip the long lines to the Palatine Gallery (Galleria Palatina), and see a private collection of the Pitti Palace. Look at the paintings collected by the Grand Duke, displayed in a succession of rooms, such as the Planetary Rooms designed by the baroque painter Pietro da Cortona.
